How the RSR Unlock Community Vote Works
and future community votes across DTFs will work too
This post is not a position on the proposal itself, it concerns just mechanics, deadlines, eligibility across chains, and how to participate.
In contrast to our governance guidelines this vote uses Snapshot (off-chain, wallet-signed, no gas), instead of the on-chain DTF flow (RFC → IP → review/vote/execution delay). The unlock proposal is affects all $RSR holders, and requires no on-chain execution, which is what makes it very different from on-chain DTF proposals.
Why Snapshot for a pan-DTF decision (new standard)
Each DTF is its own DAO, with its own governor smart contracts. Any on-chain execution must therefor happen through the respective DTF individually. There is no single on-chain mechanism that can ratify a protocol-wide RSR policy across all DTFs at once.
This would create a formidable challenge to pass policy changes across DTFs, as the mechanics of synchronising an on-chain vote in every DTF are quite formidable.
Snapshot changes that. By tallying RSR, stRSR, and vlRSR held across Ethereum mainnet, Base, and BNB Chain in one vote, we can gauge community sentiment precisely where no on-chain execution is required.
Important to note that Snapshot aggregates sentiment only; Every on-chain action remains the domain of each DTF’s governor contracts.
Vote window
- Opens: August 27
- Snapshot date (balance check): ~ August 26
- Closes: September 3
- Please confirm the exact Snapshot close time on the proposal page once it’s live.
All RSR across three chains are eligible
- All RSR on Ethereum mainnet are eligible.
- All RSR on Base are eligible.
- All RSR on BNB Chain are eligible.
- All stRSR (staked RSR) on ETH, Base and BNB chain are eligible
- All vlRSR (vote-locked RSR) on ETH, Base and BNB chain eligible.
- Exception: any RSR held in exchange wallets does not count. The snapshot reads self-custody balances only.
If you want to vote and your RSR is on an exchange, withdraw it to your own wallet before August 26 (the snapshot date). Staked and vote-locked RSR across Ethereum, Base, and BNB Chain is counted automatically.
How voting is executed (Snapshot mechanics)
- Voting is carried out on Snapshot.
- Snapshot reads your RSR, stRSR, and vlRSR balances at the snapshot time
- You sign with the wallet holding your RSR. The vote is recorded off-chain against that balance.
- Voting weight = eligible RSR, stRSR and vlRSR held at snapshot. This aggregates holdings across Ethereum mainnet, Base, and BNB Chain in a single tally.
- No gas fees, voting is free
What the vote is about, TL;DR
- Milestone 1 = $2.5M NARR, unlock up to 3B RSR, measured by 30-day moving average price.
- Price floor $0.005 / above $0.015 only $45M worth of $RSR are unlocked.
- Any change outside the predefined framework rules requires a further RSR-holder Snapshot vote.
- Non-binding pledge.
- Confusion Capital / ABC Labs / Best Friend Finance abstain with company-owned RSR. Individual team members may vote personal holdings.
- Future milestones defined one at a time; Milestone 2 would return to the community for a separate proposal and vote.
After the vote
If adopted: unlock follows the milestone rules defined in the proposal by Nevin. If deviation is needed, like the price below floor, above the ceiling, a milestone or allocation change, it would require another RSR-holder Snapshot vote.
Any on-chain execution, where required, remains the responsibility of each DTF’s governor and votes there.
