Reserve - State of Things 2026-08-12

This is the replacement for the bi-weekly X community spaces, brought to you every 14 days.
Covering July 29 – August 12, 2026 · forum.reserve.org

August on the forum: quiet on the surface, but productive. Eight threads saw activity, and one big decision (delegates got renewed and promoted), one big idea (pay the community to shill, but only if they have skin in the game), and one small confession (the process guy skipped the process).

The delegates got tenure

The biggest actual decision of the fortnight landed in the Delegate Program Trial Run Review. On August 4, Nevin Freeman made it official: ABC Labs will fund the delegate program for another six months, and it expands to cover the AI DTFs and anything else governed by vlRSR. Raphael_Anode confirmed the next day and closed the trial chapter with “Onwards to the next six months!”

The trial numbers earned it: six delegates, 31 proposals, 100% participation, and the kicker that not a single proposal would have reached quorum without them. Nevin did trim one ambition, though: token melting and auctions stay with ABC Labs (“simple things for ABC to handle”), so the delegates’ hoped-for expanded job description got politely shelved.

When reading between the lines, some of the delegates’ recurring gripe (Zeb said it first, Ham seconded it) is that ABC Labs doesn’t engage when delegates ask for business context. Nevin showing up in the thread with a funding commitment is a partial answer. The engagement question remains open.

James wants to pay for conviction, not noise

The most substantial new thinking came from 0xJMG (James), who dropped a two-part proposal on August 6 riffing off Nevin’s “we need to earn attention” video.

Part one: a conviction-weighted ambassador program. A daily $500 RSR pool ($15k/month, fixed) split among content creators on a rank-weighted curve, with multipliers tied to economic commitment: 2x for quality discussion, 10x if you stake $10 of RSR on the DTF you’re posting about, up to 100x for holding positions 180+ days. AI slop posters get exactly zero. The theory: paid shills have reach but no conversion because everyone can smell them; people with actual bags write better. He borrows from EtherFi’s affiliate tiers and Polymarket’s incentive stack, and wants a pseudo-celeb anchor creator (“Reserve’s version of Chainlink God” — he’s seen this movie before, at Machinima with PewDiePie).

Part two: since the AI DTFs may face securities headaches on CEX listings, use CEX Earn campaigns instead. RSR is already listed on Upbit, Bithumb, Binance, OKX, and the rest of the Korean and Mandarin-speaking exchange circuit; run Earn campaigns there to distribute RSR and funnel users into DTF education, with boosts up to 100x for joining the ambassador program. Target: 30–40% retention at 180 days, which he admits is well above the ~20% industry benchmark.

Both posts end with “Comments, critique or questions welcomed.” Two likes, zero replies so far. For two posts totaling 1,100+ words of the most concrete growth thinking on the forum this month, that silence is its own data point (and rather proves Nevin’s engagement-gap thesis).

The new “State of Things” format replaces the community call

Raphael_Anode posted the first Reserve — State of Things roundup on July 29, formally retiring the community call (“the call had a good run but we’ve seen struggling participation”). The inaugural edition covered the AI DTF launch ($5M+ inflows), the ~$204–222M TVL milestone, and the awareness gap: Bitget’s $80k paid campaign is generating most of the social buzz while Reserve’s own explainer videos pull 50–125 views.

The lone reply, from azkuel: agree on discuss-then-vote in general, but give the team a two-week post-launch grace period for bug-fix discretion when a product just shipped. Also pitched DeFi integration (borrow against DTF collateral) as a reason to hold DTFs on-chain rather than ETFs in a brokerage. And reported a staking-balance UI bug, which the team fixed before the edit button cooled down.

Ham skips the RFC stage, files apology in advance

The eUSD Revenue Share Update 02-08-2026 went up August 2: the routine biweekly recalculation keeping the 90/10 fintech/staker split honest as Ugly Cash and Sentz balances drift. Routine, except Ham posted it late and moved it on-chain without the standard RFC period to avoid a weekend vote.

He apologized in the same breath, and the reasoning is defensible (these updates only ratify a formula everyone knows). Still, there’s comedy in it: Ham is the same person who spent July arguing that eight AI DTF proposals skipping the RFC stage was a governance problem. The process advocate speeding through a yellow light, with a note on the windshield explaining why. 0xd15c0 voted FOR anyway, logging it in his delegate platform thread on August 5, consistent with his standing rule for these updates.

Briefly noted

A newcomer, TradingNetLive, pitched TNL20, a top-20 crypto Index DTF (30% BTC, 18% ETH, then a long tail down to 0.5% XMR) aimed at beginners. No replies yet, and it’ll need more than an allocation list to get to RFC shape. And an empty continuation stub of the reservegrowth.app thread appeared on August 2, which is what happens when someone clicks “reply as linked topic” and then thinks better of it.

The bottom line

The fortnight’s arc is coherent: the delegate program graduated from experiment to institution, the community call died so a written roundup could live, and the sharpest minds on the forum are now all circling the same problem from different angles: Reserve’s product is ahead of its audience. James wants to pay conviction-holders to close the gap. Nevin wants the delegates watching the optimistic governance rails while ABC Labs hunts distribution. The forum’s job for the next six months is making sure those two efforts actually talk to each other.

Appendix: Reserve Protocol — What Moved in the Last 30 Days

This is the result of Matt van Horne’s excellent /last30days skill search on socials and more about the term “Reserve Protocol”. Summarised for brevity.

Community roundup · as of 2026-08-12

Quick pulse-check on where Reserve ($RSR) sits heading into the back half of the year. Signal this cycle was concentrated on X and the governance forum — Reddit and YouTube were quiet (or unreachable), so treat this as a directional read, not a full sweep.

“Decentralized BlackRock”: the DTF push

Reserve keeps leaning into Decentralized Token Folios (DTFs) — onchain, ETF-like baskets where one token = exposure to a whole basket, no custodian.

  • Shipped five AI-themed DTFs backed by tokenized US stocks — first of its kind.
  • Yield DTFs already show real product-market fit at ~$210M market cap; Index DTFs are early (~$1.7M) but growing.
  • Distribution matters more than the product here: Coinbase Retail DEX on Base lets users track and trade DTFs directly, and a Super Reserve Fund is being stood up to bankroll devs launching new stablecoins / RTokens.

Community sentiment

Bullish, but concentrated in a handful of accounts. The recurring theme is a supply-shock / accumulation narrative - “whales absorbing every last token,” tightening float, burn + veRSR reinforcing the thesis. The more grounded takes tie price to actual RToken/stablecoin adoption rather than pure scarcity.

A potential headwind

Open USD (OUSD) — backed by a Visa/Coinbase consortium, is a direct competitive threat to Reserve’s stablecoin model. Regulatory clarity (CLARITY Act) also remains an overhang.

Nice post.

The “engagement gap” may be partly a lead-by-example issue. Communities reflect what they’re given. If people feel valued only for liquidity, participation eventually thins.

TL;DR: The gap may be a symptom of the approach, and an opportunity to improve it.

Great post @Raphael_Anode. Enjoying the refreshed format.

Oh, the irony wasn’t lost on me at all.

Onwards and upwards.
